“What’s His Name & the Other Guy”, or in this case “What’s His Name & the Other Guy and the Other Guys" is an Americana band led by Brian “Looper” Lucas and Greg Valde (located middle left and middle right respectfully). For this Thanksgiving gig, they are accompanied by violinist, Blain McQuinn (far left), who makes a regular arrival at these shows, and newly found bassist, Kenny Jones (far right), who is making his first appearance with the group.

This was their only practice with all band members and even though they just got back from eating (and drinking) they decided the practice off with even more drinking, because when in Wisconsin. Although Kenny did not bring it to practice, it has been a fantasy of Greg for them to play with a stand-up bass at one of their shows and Kenny who was a late addition might be able to finally fulfill that dream.

The performance took place in the back of Cafe Carpe in Wisconsin, which is a restaurant, bar, and music club which began in 1985 and is the destination for many of their shows, including their yearly boxing day show.

Looper and Greg have been performing together for 26 years. Both are/ were college professors. However, they didn’t meet as you would think, Looper was a student of Greg’s, but the chain doesn’t stop there. Blain was one of Looper’s students as well. Kenny is the odd man out and happens to be Blain’s high school friend.

Their discography includes many Wisconsin/Mid-western-related songs “with a smattering of banter some find amusing” between the tunes. Greg got his wish, Kenny brought his stand-up bass and the show went swimmingly.
